Dragonflies
Dragonflies are in the Order Odonata. They have a similar life cycle to the mayflies and stone flies, as they have an incomplete metamorphosis, also. Once the nymph hatches from its egg, it can spend as much as 4 years in that state. Dragonfly nymphs are carnivorous, preying on all manner of aquatic invertebrates, and some small fish. The nymph stage completes its development in the later part of the winter of its last year and emerges in the spring. It breaks out of its exoskeleton (shuck) and sprouts its wings, to fly off. The adults are carnivorous also.
